Let’s Be Real

Hi there, and welcome!

Welcome to this space that was created for real Christians* like you and me to come, just as we are, brokenness and all, and hopefully, to leave a little more whole than we were when we arrived.

A safe space for us to bring all of our doubts and fears and questions and frustrations, and to talk about them honestly. And a space where we can invite God into those conversations, letting Him (through His Spirit and His written Word) speak His loving truths into every unsanctified part of our lives.

A space where our toes might feel a little sore from being stepped-on, occasionally (especially my toes); but a space where hard words will be laced with grace upon grace, as God so perfectly provides the grace that allows us to change and grow.

A space where curiosity will be encouraged, and so will admitting that we don’t have all the answers (and we probably never will). A space where our own ignorance or incompetence comes with the comfort of knowing that the all-knowing, all-competent One is at the helm.

A space for holding firmly to the message of the Good News of Jesus Christ, while holding our theologies and doctrinal beliefs loosely, with open hands outstretched to the Holy Spirit, with our hearts and minds still teachable… because not a single one of us (as individuals, churches, or denominations) has it all perfectly figured out.

A space where we can sometimes disagree about things, yet we can still love one another and treat each other with honor.

A space for tearing down old, ill-fitting beliefs, to build up new and better ones, ever and only upon the sure foundation that is Jesus Christ.

A space designed for our real selves to show up, right now — not the people we think we’re supposed to be, or the people others have told us we should be. A space for being exactly who we are today, while still believing that the best versions of ourselves are yet to come, and so, leaving room in this space for our better selves as well.

A space where we can believe that we are loved, today, just as we are — no exceptions. (And so is everyone else!)

A space for people who have a heart to show the world how the Good News of Jesus is more than just a get-out-of-hell-free card. How it not only gives us hope for the future, but also hope for today. How it changes real people like you and me, making us more and more like Jesus. How it literally brings the Kingdom of Heaven to earth — God with us, even now.

If any of this resonates with you as you’re reading this: this space was created for you!

I hope you’ll stick around. The real you is so wanted here!

This world doesn’t need more Christians who pretend to be something better than they are. It needs followers of Jesus who are willing to show others exactly who they are, so that others can actually understand who God is. It needs followers of Jesus who will let people see their flaws and insecurities, and even their sins (because we all still have sins), who will be living testaments to the mercy, grace, patience, kindness, and tenacity of a perfectly good God who loves utterly bad people and graces them with His unending goodness.

Let’s be that together — you and me, with the Spirit of Jesus as our helper.

For the sake of the Good News of Jesus, let’s be real!

*This blog was created primarily with Christians in mind — though anyone is welcome here, Christian or non-Christian! But this post in particular is addressing those of us who have heard the Good News of Jesus, have believed, and have committed to following Him. If you haven’t yet, you’re not excluded! The Good News of Jesus is for you, too. And I hope you’ll stick around as well!
